How to cope with a sister-in-law who's jealous of my pregnancy?
Sorry, it's going to be pretty detailed.... My SIL (we'll call her K) just had her 3rd child, a beautiful baby girl) last year with her new fiance. She is not well-off at all, on food stamps, welfare, etc. while her fiance refuses to get a job to help support their family. They all live in a tiny 1-bedrm apartment, all share a room (K, her fiance, baby, and her 2 oldest kids, one is 10 and the other is 8). We were all so happy for her anyways when she became pregnant with her 3rd child, I was probably more excited than the rest of her family, I threw her babyshower, & we all showered her with love & attention since this was the 1st baby in the family in 7 years. According to my fiance (her brother) she has been very attention-seeking her whole life. She is the type of person who ALWAYS wants the spotlight on her, and if we aren't paying attention to her kids then it's the end of the world, so to speak.
My fiance and I started trying for our 1st child last year, had 2 early miscarriages, & newly pregnant again going on 14 weeks, now. I was very nervous to let K know about my pregnancy because I know she has made it very clear that even though she had a baby last year she wanted to be the next one to have a baby, again. Crazy, I know. She has stated numerous times that she wants to be the next in the family to have a boy, even though she already has one boy. We have been trying to tell her that another baby in her life isn't a good idea since she has no means of supporting another baby. We all thinks she just wants the attention on her, again, like last year.
So we let the family know about our pregnancy, everyone was very excited for us, except for K. She has been very cold towards me, refuses to ask how my pregnancy is going, how my wedding plans are, etc.
Her entire family is hoping I am having a boy as K just had a girl and it would be a nice balance.
We now just found out that K is expecting AGAIN, her 4th child. She was on birth control, but had let it slip to her sister that she "accidentally" forgot to take 3 pills in a row without letting her fiance know. My mother in law and other sister in law firmly believe she wanted to become pregnant so that I wasn't the only one pregnant and gaining all the attention away from her.
My mother in law has stated K is now hoping that she is having a boy and not me so that she could have the next boy in the family and since she just had a girl then she's hoping everyone will have all eyes on her new baby, not mine.
How do I deal with this jealousy and childishness? What should I say, if anything? It's making me sick to my stomach to even think that someone would do this or think these things. She knows this is her brother and my first child, that the entire family is so happy for us. How could someone want to take this special moment away from us so that they could once again be in the "spotlight?"
And to the lovely person who wasted their time feeling sorry for my future children, I DO have a great job, as does my fiance. It's none of your business whether we became pregnant out of wedlock, it shouldn't matter anyways. Plenty of people who are MARRIED are HORRIBLE parents. And we've been together longer than most married people are before they have children. (going on 9 years, thank you VERY much!) Now go waste your petty time somewhere else.
