Cystic Acne and Birth Control?
Starting in November 2010, I developed cystic acne on my jawline. I had NEVER had anything like this (i only ever got the typical teenager pimples...) Aside from being a gigantic blow to my self esteem, they HURT like hell. It was awful. I tried handfuls of antibiotics and topical creams, which did absolutely nothing. I tried cutting out pretty much everything out of my diet, which seemed to help a bit, but I just COULDN'T live my life eating celery sticks and water. So finally, I made the decision to take Accutane, but I had to wait a month to start it. During this "waiting month," I went on birth control to try and help. And it has done WONDERS! Pretty much all gone. Sometimes something will pop up, but I think it's related to peanut butter, spicy food, or chocolate (3 of my favorites things, oh yay) But bottom line, my skin SEEMS to have been "cured," for the most part. But I'm literally supposed to pick up my Accutane prescription today. I was determined to take it, but I've been reading some scary side effects that are scaring me off. And the logical option seems to just stick with birth control, if it's working, right? But I'm just worried that this birth control is a temporary fix, and it will eventually stop working, or once I stop taking the BC, the acne will come back full force :( Anyone been through this???? Know anything about anything? I'm kind of panicking right now! Thankyou!

Does Accutane cause INFERTILITY in women?
I've had a bad case of cystic acne for about 5 years now. I went to my family physician, who told me that she was ready to put me on accutane (I'm not sure if general physicians are allowed to prescribe accutane in canada). I talked to my parents about it, but they did not agree. They say it causes many long term side effects, like damage to the liver and other organs, and the worst of all, infertility. I have done some research and seen some horrible comments on the public discussion sites, like how they took accutane a few years ago and now they are infertile, causes unexplained! Is this true? Does accutane really cause infertility?? It's been five years and acne has lowered my self-esteem to such an extent, that I don't feel like going in public anymore! The only place I don't get breakouts are my eye-lids, the rest of my face is covered in acne, deep scars and dark spots. I even get breakouts on my neck and below my ears every once in a while. I just want to put an end to this, so I really need to find out if accutane does cause infertility. My doctor has not told me so, but still I'm not satisfied. Please help me, I would highly appreciate any answers!!
