Caring for cats should begin before it enters your house. Therefore, you should have all the proper necessities to accommodate the cat when it arrives. This includes the cat litter, cat litter tray, clean cat bowls, food, a cat carrier and comfy, warm bedding for the cat to sleep. In addition they need annual vetenarian visits and grooming.
Cats are really very low maintenance pets, so caring for cats can be very easy. They like to play with something and play can be easily provided by a piece of string. Cats have finely developed hunting habits and any form of play that engages those habits will provide fun and exercise. Playing with a cat might be funny overall, but is completely satisfying after all. Some cat toys designed for cats that are available at pet stores are good for cats to play around - balls, toy mice, cat fisher's etc will all give your cat hours of fun. After hunting play, cats will often crave stroking and can be quite insistent in demanding your attention. Cats are very friendly, so caring for cats is always easy.
One bad habit of cats you will likely come across is scratching. Cats love to scratch in order to stretch themselves and can damage furniture if not taken care of. For that, I strongly advise obtaining a scratch post, this will usually deter the cat from attacking your furniture, carpet, wallpaper and even your favourite curtains.
Try to brushing and combing your cat every day or at least twice a week. Check for anything unusual in body or skin. See your vet right away if you find anything that seems suspicious.
Give your cat a comfortable and quiet place to rest and relax, and to be away from anything that can disturb. Get some soft cat bed, so it can sleep there comfortably.
Caring for cats can be really easy and by no means an impossible task, they are very, very clean, independent animals and sometimes like to be left to their own devices, this is fine but never forget they will still require all your love and your attention.

Christians, do you feel that mankind is addressing their personal needs over God's commands/requests?
Christians, do you feel that mankind is addressing their personal needs over God's commands/requests?
I have a good friend who has all but abandoned mankind and has attached and connected only to the caring for animals , specifically cats. I've noticed and growing trend across the globe of humans,(please note that I totally respect the caring of animals, as I have had many in my own time) placing more emphasis on caring for animals and less for humanity as in the poor and needy. you can accomplish more of the same with loving all God's people first.. Humans first and animals next and God's Earth third....I think if one first develops love in their heart, all the rest will follow...If one hardens their heart, it's easier to believe everyone is against them and find fault in everything and anything in life.
The reason I say this I feel compelled to say this here is mainly because I have this friend at work who has hardened her heart to those we work with because she feels discriminated against, and she is white. So she engulfed her entire life to caring for God's animals mainly cats...She engrossed her entire life into caring for cats...While this is admirable of her, I have to tell you all that she nearly lost her mind in the course of the 5 years I've known her with her direction in life because of her desensitation toward human life and I see far too many people engrossing themselves in animals and less for mankind. I understand that many of the elderly feel that that's all they have to care for and perhaps no one else pays much attention to and for them. That is a loss for our people of the ?Earth as well and that may be just another straw on the broken camel's back that troubles me here.
I am also seeing an over population of animals because of peoples' ignorance and selfishness in thinking that they can care for so many animals when actually we have an over population problem with this newest obsession.
Does anyone see or agree with my concern for mankind or do you disagree?

Advice & pros & cons of raising chickens?
I'm considering building a coop & bringing in chickens (Northeast USA) for eggs & perhaps help cut back on Deer Ticks.
I had some farm experience growing up, am familiar with basic livestock care, looked up further info about chickens and have some preliminary perspectives. (If you have some good links I'll take them) But in asking you this question, I'd like to set what I "think" I know aside, assume I know nothing, and hear from real folks. I have kids who also want this and I'd like someone to help break down the actual responsibility for me so I can present it to (older) children. They've had positive experience caring for cats & dogs so far in their lives.
Looking for specific advice. My initial questions are:
- how many to start with
- what type are hardy and appropriate for a Northeast winter/summer extreme climate
- how much square footage to roam in
- daily & overall responsibility by an actual owner.
- what feed do you recommend to keep their eggs "organic" & all natural
- approximate cost of feed per month - how much per chicken daily
- how you keep up the water supply
- how often do you clean out coop
- expected & unexpected vet & medical bills
- how to keep bird diseases at bay
- what do you do if an egg cracks or gets stuck inside a bird? How often does this happen? How can you tell?
- If I go ahead and do this, and find your advice to be relevant, can the kids and I get in touch with you from time to time via Y/A to ask questions?
I very much appreciate someone taking the time to explain this. Sometimes I look to some of you folks as a "partner", a resource, and back-up voice in raising my kids, showing them how to reach out for help, ask questions, respect other opinions, etc. They also learn not to be the victim of their last speaker, with some of the characters on Y/A! In this case, it would be to research an idea before investing the money, getting in over our heads, and accidentally killing chickens!
Thanks.
Thanks for your help! I'll be ready for the Spring!
